MIST celebrates World Environment Day

Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) on Monday organized a day-long program to celebrate the World Environment Day.

Water Resources and Coastal Engineering (EWCE) department in association with MIST Environment Club and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized the event at the MIST campus in city’s Mirpur area.

Acting commandant of MIST Brigadier General Md Wahidul Islam attended the program as the chief guest. Nur Ahamed Khondaker, assistant FAO representative (programme) was present as the guest of honor, said ISPR press release. The program was inaugurated with tree plantation by chief guest followed by a seminar on the theme of world Environment Day-2023 “#BeatPlasticPollution”. 

Dr. Abdullah Al Muyeed, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of CWIS-FSM support cell of DPHE delivered keynote speech on the importance of combating plastic pollution for sustainable environment management. 

A panel discussion followed by seminar was held with experts from FAO, Youth net for climate justice and student representative from MIST Environment Club to create awareness about ways to reduce primary packaging agricultural input waste. 

In these events, future graduates of MIST, faculty members and representatives of FAO were present. 

In different competitions such as Eco Olympiad, Poster Presentation, AutoCAD and case competition, hundreds of teams from MIST and other universities participated with huge zeal and enthusiasm. The day long events ended with the unveiling of EWCE departmental magazine, titled “ENVIRONIA” followed by a colourful cultural program.
