Preeti Khandakar Halima, a Vice Chairman candidate in the upcoming Bijoynagar Upazila polls, has been found in the Kachpur area of Narayanganj. Police rescued her on Thursday morning and brought her into custody, confirming her safety.
Md. Asadul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bijoynagar Thana, stated that they located Preeti at Kachpur Police Station at 8 AM. He mentioned that the full details of her disappearance would be clear once she arrives and provides her account of the incident.
Preeti’s husband, Masud Khandakar, explained that she is contesting for the Female Vice Chairman post in the Bijoynagar Upazila polls, scheduled for June 5, under the Lotus symbol. Preeti had faced challenges submitting her nomination due to server errors but successfully regained her candidacy through a court order.The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon while Preeti was campaigning in Harashpur Union with two companions. They were in Wrishipara, where Preeti entered a house to speak with voters. When two women exited, Preeti did not return. After 20 minutes, her companions searched for her inside but could not find her.
The Assistant Returning Officer, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, and the police were immediately informed. Masud Khandakar filed a General Diary at the police station.
He was notified this morning about his wife's location and is awaiting further details upon reaching Kachpur.
This development brings relief to Preeti's family and supporters, who were deeply concerned about her sudden disappearance. The police are expected to provide more information after questioning Preeti.
