Film artistes belonging to the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association have formed a human chain calling for the resignation of Actor Misha Sawdagor, the current president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, and Zayed Khan, the general secretary.

They held the human chain in front of the main gate of BFDC on July 19 at 11:30 am.

They have come on to the streets claiming that Misha Sawdagor, the president of the Bangladesh Film Artists ‘Association, and Zayed Khan, the general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association, have taken away the voting rights of 184 films artistes.

Sadia Mirza and many others were present there. There were Feroz Sai, Shan, Sajid Prince, Ramizuddin, Hero Alam and many more.

In the biennial election of Shilpi Samiti in 2017-18, the total number of voters of the association was 624. After the Misha Sawdagor-Zayed Khan panel won, 184 voters were disqualified from the list and only associate members were kept.

20 new artists were made new voters. Due to this, the aggrieved artistes have been protesting against the Misha-Zayed leadership for a long time.

Eventually, they demanded the resignation of Shilpi Samiti president Misha Saudagar and general secretary Zayed Khan.

The artists said, “We do not want a leader who does not respect the artists.” They also demanded returning the right to vote in addition to Misha-Zayed’s resignation.

The artistes who came to the human chain said, “Those who play small roles in movies are also artists. They are also an essential part of the industry.

Apart from them, no one ever thinks of movies. But Zayed Khan came and insulted everyone. We have been discussing the issue for a long time. But Zayed did not do anything.”

Meanwhile, a press conference was also organized at the Film Artists Association yesterday. On July 15, eighteen film organizations boycotted Misha Sawdagor, president of the Film Artists’ Association, and Zayed Khan, general secretary.

The two were boycotted on charges of being involved in activities against the interests of the industry, said several leaders and activists of the producer and director’s association.
