Allegations have surfaced of miscreants openly firing shots at a businessman's house at Hathazari upazila of Chattogram.
CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral on Facebook, drawing widespread attention.
The incident occurred around 10:30 AM on Wednesday at the residence of Abul Kashem, located at Uttar Mekhal of ward no. 8 under Mekhal union of the upazila.
According to the CCTV footage, four young men entered the premises at 10:43 AM through the main gate. Three of them were visibly carrying heavy firearms, while one stood slightly behind. The three armed men then began firing multiple rounds at the house before fleeing the scene through the same gate.
Sources reported that the businessman received an extortion call from a foreign number about 15 days ago, but he reportedly ignored the threat. On Wednesday morning, six individuals arrived on two motorcycles in front of his home. While two stayed outside with the bikes, the remaining four entered the premises and opened fire before making a swift getaway.
The businessman's brother has reportedly lodged a verbal complaint with Hathazari Police Station following the incident.
Confirming the event, Hathazari Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz said, “We visited the scene shortly after the incident. No written complaint has been filed yet, but the family has said they will come to the station to do so.”
He added that police are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify the attackers and an investigation is currently underway.
