In Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali, the number of people getting vaccinated has increased with the increase in Covid-19 infection. A huge crowd was seen at the Upazila Health Complex to get the Covid-19 vaccine. Many people have returned home after being unable to get vaccinated due to iimmence crowd.
Since the beginning of the second wave of Covid-19, the interest of the common people in the upazila to get vaccinated has been increasing. In Mirzaganj, as in the rest of the country, when the mass vaccination started on August 7, there was a great enthusiasm among the people to get vaccinated.
Due to the vaccination crisis, 800 vaccines were given in each upazila on that day alone. Unable to get vaccinated that day, many people are now rushing to the hospital to get vaccinated. Some are getting messages, while many are crowding without getting messages. In this situation, doctors and nurses have been seen struggling to provide vaccins for several days.
Such a picture was seen on the spot on Monday morning at the vaccination center of the Upazila Health Complex. The crowd of people coming to get vaccinated has been increasing since Monday morning. This vaccination program runs continuously from 9 am to noon through one booth only.
At that time, many people complained that there is no concern about social distance and hygiene. As a result, Covid-19 is more likely to spread from vaccination centre. Booths or centres should be expanded quickly.
Omar Farooq Hawlader, who came to get the vaccine said, “I have been waiting since 9 am and I have not been able to get the vaccine so far due to overcrowding. Seeing such crowd, I am afraid that I may get infected before even getting the jab.”
Upon asking, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Dilruba Yasmin Liza said, "We are trying to give vaccines in accordance with discipline and health rules. But the crowd has become harder to handle. I am working to maintain social distance and hygiene with the help of police.”
