A four-member delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture visited the Haor region of Kishoreganj as local farmers lost their way due to the cruel irony of nature. They visited various fields in Nikli upazila on Wednesday noon.

The members of the delegation were Senior Agriculture Secretary Mejbaul Islam, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Asadibullah, Director General of Paddy Research Institute Dr Shahjahan Kabir, Additional Director (Paddy) of Dhaka Region Bashir Ahmed Sarkar.

The members of the delegation instructed the farmers to irrigate the boro lands which were damaged due to hot weather and to spray the lands by mixing 100 grams of potash fertilizer in 10 liters of water.

It is learned that the green paddy fields in Kishoreganj's haor suddenly turned gray and white in the hot air last Sunday (April 4) night. About three hours of Kalbaishakhi storms and hot winds destroyed most of the boro lands in the haor. Not only haor but also 25,000 hectares of boro land in 13 upazilas of Kishoreganj were affected in the same way.

The delegation was accompanied by Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Shamim Alam, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Saiful Alam, Nikli Upazila Parishad Chairman Ruhul Quddus Bhuiyan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Samsuddin Munna, Upazila Agriculture Officer Belayet Hossain and others.
