The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) are set to join forces in a concerted effort to enhance export trade, diversify product offerings in international markets, and explore new avenues for trade growth.

This collaborative approach was formalized during a courtesy call made by Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen to FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam at the FBCCI office on Monday.

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam expressed optimism about the prospects of expanding Bangladesh's export markets by leveraging the expertise of commercial counselors stationed at various embassies and missions. He stressed the importance of these diplomats in promoting not only Bangladesh-made garments but also other products in their respective countries.

This, he believes, will contribute significantly to the growth of Bangladesh's export sector. Additionally, Alam urged businesses to take initiative in countries with untapped potential for Bangladeshi products.

Mahbubul Alam also underscored the significance of regional trade and called for seizing opportunities within the regional market. He suggested organizing events such as fairs, business forums, and joint chambers under regional alliances like BIMSTEC to further regional trade ties. Alam also disclosed plans to host the "Best of Bangladesh Expo" in Mumbai, India, soon to showcase Bangladesh's finest products.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen acknowledged that a substantial portion of Bangladesh's export earnings comes from the ready-made garment sector but stressed the need for diversification. He emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to supporting business ventures in expanding their product markets abroad. Momen also highlighted the ministry's active efforts in researching new markets.

The Foreign Secretary emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the private sector and government officials to facilitate export diversification and trade expansion. He encouraged commercial counselors serving in various missions to play a pivotal role in opening new markets. Specific proposals from businessmen are welcomed in this regard.

FBCCI Vice-President Khairul Huda Chapal, Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarkar, Dr. Jashoda Jiban Debnath, Shami Kaiser, Rashedul Hossain Chowdhury Roni, and FBCCI Directors were present during the discussion, underlining the significance of the collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and FBCCI in driving the country’s trade expansion efforts.
