Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Thursday called upon the traders to reach quality food products to the consumers of the country as well as the international market.
"The government is committed to delivering safe and nutritious food to its citizens by 2030," he said.
The minister said this while speaking at a function as the chief guest at Hotel Intercontinental in the city.
Secretary of the ministry Moshammat Nazmunara Khanum and FBCCI President Md. Jasim Uddin attended the function as special guests with Safe Food Authority Chairman Md. Abdul Qayyum Sarkar in the chair.
He said the government is not an opponent of businessmen, but a friend.
He also said it could be the largest food export sector after readymade garments and the government has already decided to set up laboratories in eight sections of the country for food quality testing. Besides, agreements have been signed with eight mobile van labs and JICA for setting up international standard testing labs.
Chief executive officers of about 20 companies engaged in food production, processing and food business of the country were present on the occasion.
