Minister seeks FAO support to combat climate change

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin has sought support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nations for action to combat climate change. He said Bangladesh shall be working closely in the days to come to overcome the biggest challenge of our time, global climate change. He also sought cooperations in Environmental action. 

Environment Minister said this while Robert D. Simpson, FAO representative in Bangladesh and his team called on the Minister in his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday. 

Secretary of the ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary(Admin) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary(Development) Mizanul Hoque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary(Climate Change)  Moniruzzaman, Additional Secretary (EPC)  Mizanur Rahaman NDC and senior officials from both manner were present in the meeting. 

Environment Minister said Government is working sincerely to conserve and develop of environment, forest, biodiversity and combat to climate change. He said Bangladesh  thankfully appreciate FAO’s support to export the stockpiled 525 tons of DDT pesticides in an environment friendly manner. He alos said Department of Environment with FAO's support is also working to strengthen the capacity for monitoring emissions under the Paris Agreement. FAO assisted BCRL project will also help us immensely in climate resilience and livelihood. 

FAO representative in Bangladesh Robert D Simpson said Bangladesh has been a powerful voice on climate change emerging as an important country in the world. Bangladesh has built positive image globally. FAO wants to continue working with Bangladesh in disaster management and early warning system. FAO will continue substantial dialogue with Bangladesh for longer term financing in field of agriculture and climate change action.
