Mim, Razz starrer ‘Damal’ to release on Oct 28

Director Raihan Rafi’s upcoming film titled ‘Damal’ starring popular actress Bidya Sinha Saha Mim and Sariful Islam Razz as the lead to release on October 28 in theaters. 

Recently the film has received censor certificate from by Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCB). On August 8, a special screening of the film was arranged for the censor board and the members of preview committee issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), confirmed by Md Mominul Haque, secretary of the Censor Board.

It is learnt that the film ‘Damal’ is inspired by true events and the storyline was conceptualized by Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Impress Telefilm Ltd and Channel I, on some of the historical chain of events by the legendary Swadhin Bangla Football team.

The film will be produced under Impress Telefilm and the film’s director Raihan Rafi and famous Bangladeshi author Nazim Ud Daula have paired up for its screenplay. Apart from Razz and Mim this star-studded film also includes actors like Siam Ahmed, Saeed Babu, Rashed Mamun Apu, Sumit, Shahnaz Sumi, Puja, Brishti, Othoi, Nazmus Saqib, and many others in various roles.

Regarding the context director Raihan Rafi said, “The story of 'Damal' has no such history in any other country in the world. It is based on the story of independent Bengali football team formed in June 1971 during the liberation war, the Bangladeshi football team played a total of 16 matches in different locations, earning a total of Tk 5 lakh at that time which was spent on freedom fighters. 

Apart from this, many unknown stories will be seen as well. It is a big budget film and the work has been completed through continuous shooting in various locations of Sayedpur, Rangpur in North Bengal. A lot of time has been spent on VFX.’ 

He further said, ‘Although, I had plan to release it long ago but the date was not fixed that time. Now the date has been finalised so viewers can enjoy the film across the country on October 28’.
