Anti Terrorism Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 10 Islamic extremists including six female operatives in a raid on a suspected militant hideout in Moulvibazar. The new outfit – Imam Mahmuder Kafela – follows the ideology of Ghazwa-e-Hind (Battle of India), and aims to establish control in the Indian subcontinent, police say.

Ghazwa-e-Hind refers to the Hadith that predicts the great battle for India, according to Hudson Institute, a Washington-based think-tank.

The law enforcers also recovered 2.5 kilograms (Kgs) of explosives, 50 detonators, training manual, sourds, commando boots and cash from their possession in the operation Hillside. Around 20 to 25 extremists used to live in the house built in an acre of land.

The BNP-Jamaat clique during their rule had carried out bomb, grenade and bullet attacks, smuggled in 10-truck arms and misappropriated the money of the public and the orphans as they are a ‘trusted haven’ for militancy. They are the sponsor of militancy and Shaykh Abdur Rahman and Bangla Bhai had emerged during the BNP regime.

Militancy is now under control but yet to be removed or eliminated completely from the country. There is no room for militancy and terrorism in the country.

Representatives, local

administration Islamic

scholars, imams and teachers will

have to come forward

to prevent

misinterpretation of Islam

The ruling Awami League took stand against crimes of all sorts and it is maintaining a zero tolerance policy against militancy and terrorism with a view to making Bangladesh a safe abode for all. Law enforcement agencies have destroyed militants’ dens and their networks across the country.

Now police and intelligence agencies will have to be on alert in dealing with any untoward situation for safety and security of the people. There are home grown militants and they are exposing themselves in different identities. Their motive is to make the country unstable. Sometimes they were identified as Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), sometimes as Neo-JMB and even Ansarullah Bangla Team.

Apart from law enforcement agencies, Alem-Ulema (Islamic scholars) should help the government stamp out terrorism and militancy as people respect their advice and accept it.

We believe Bangladesh can eliminate terrorism and militancy completely if the Islamic scholars properly convince the people in this regard.

Peace is essential to continue the trend of development, and it will be maintained if we can contain terrorism and militancy. Public representatives, local administration Islamic scholars, imams and teachers will have to come forward to prevent the misinterpretation of Islam and make people understand that Islam does not believe in terrorism, militancy and killing people. We all have to move forward to contribute in building a modern and knowledge-based developed nation by keeping our children away from militancy and terrorism.
