UNB, Brahmanbaria: Masuka Begum (Nipu), a teacher at Milestone School and College who died from severe burn injuries following Monday’s aircraft crash in Dhaka’s Uttara, was laid to rest in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, on Tuesday in accordance with her last wish.
Her namaz-e-janaza was held at Sohagpur Eidgah ground after Asr prayers. She was buried at the village’s main graveyard, near her elder sister’s home.
Masuka, who taught English at the school’s English version primary section, was in class during the crash and sustained burns on 85 percent of her body. She was taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where she died later that night around 12:30 am.
Her body was received by her sister Papri Rahman and brother-in-law, businessman Khalilur Rahman. Before her death, Masuka reportedly expressed to a fellow teacher that she wished to be buried in Sohagpur. Her family honored that request.
Originally from Chilakut Chowdhury Bari in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, Masuka was the youngest of three siblings. After losing her mother years ago, she was raised with affection by her elder sister in Ashuganj.
Her death cast a shadow of grief over both her native village and her sister’s home in Sohagpur. Family, friends, and former colleagues mourned the loss of a teacher remembered as devout and compassionate.
Her former teacher, Professor Abu Hanifa, described her as a pious and talented woman and called on authorities to take preventive steps to avoid such tragedies in the future.
