Milestone School and College reopened yesterday, after being closed due to a tragic incident involving an aircraft crash. The Diabari campus in Uttara resumed limited academic activities, with in-person classes starting for students of grades 9 to 12 only.

The institution had remained closed following the July 21 crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training jet that struck the Haider Ali building of the school, leaving several students, teachers, and staff members dead or injured. Many are still receiving treatment at various hospitals.

On Saturday, August 2, Milestone School and College’s Public Relations Officer Shah Bulbul confirmed the decision to reopen. He said classes would be held in a limited scope and only for the higher grades at this stage. Other classes from the school section will gradually resume as the situation becomes more stable.

The day began with a prayer ceremony at 10 a.m. to remember those who lost their lives in the crash and to pray for the quick recovery of those who were injured. After the prayers, regular classes for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 commenced.

The management has stated that they are closely monitoring the condition of the affected students and staff. They are also taking steps to provide emotional support and counseling for the school community.

Milestone authorities have expressed deep grief over the loss and are committed to ensuring safety and mental well-being as they move forward. Further announcements regarding full reopening will be made based on the evolving situation.
