Mid day meal for the students was started in Kaliganj of Jhenaidah on Wednesday. Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) in Kaliganj Sadiya Jerin inaugurated the event at Adarsha government primary school in a simple ceremony. A total of 260 minor students were provided with the food. Upazila Parishad chairman Jahangir Siddiquee Thandu, upazila primary education officer among others present. Kaliganj upazila Parishad arranged the programme, said the upazila Nirbahi officer’s office sources.
UNO in Kaliganj Sadiya Jerin in her speech said the children become weaker for attending classes for hours together. To ensure food and nutrition for them, mid-day meal and such other activities should be introduced so that the minor students feel comfort in classes. It will help increase the number of learners in the educational institutions. The dropped out children also will be encouraged to go back to their school. To draw the attention of the minor students, the upazila administration has introduced distribution of their school dress free of cost. The insolvent learners will be considered specially, UNO Sadiya Jerin said.
