Michael Keaton was going to be playing Batman – aka Bruce Wayne – in the now-cancelled Batgirl movie, and it’s been revealed that his role in the movie was only going to be a small one. This news came during a conversation between Fandango’s Erik Davis and The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez. This all comes after Warner Bros Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav opted to cancel the movie – a move that shocked Hollywood.

Anyway, let’s get back to the conversation between Davis and Gonzalez. It was during their chat that Gonzalez revealed that the Batman 1989 movie star’s role in the movie was only going to be a small one. Here’s what he had to say about his involvement in the movie:

I asked how Keaton is in it at least, and I was told he was good. He’s playing Bruce Wayne/Batman age-appropriate, he’s got white hair when he’s Bruce Wayne. And the kicker here is that his Batman is ‘retired.’ But he obviously pops in to help and advise Barbara Gordon.

He’s not really that much in it, but he has a presence when he’s in it, and it’s sort of a pivotal cameo when he pops in and out.

This is pretty much what we’ve heard about his involvement in the film. He was basically going to be helping Barbara out whilst she attempted to become Gotham City’s new hero. Now, we’re not sure how Keaton will feature in the future DC Comics movie. He was going to be in The Flash movie, but that movie’s future looks very uncertain thanks to its star’s antics.

Ezra Miller’s been in the news a lot recently, and it does look like the movie star might have jeopardised their own movie. However, it does seem as though Warner Bros Discovery is doing everything it can to ensure that this movie does end up seeing the light of day. The word is that The Flash movie is brilliant and it’s testing very well with test audiences. We’ve even heard that the movie’s been testing far better than all the other DC Universe movies. It’s apparently even testing better than Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight did, which is surprising to hear.

Back to Batgirl. When Gonzalez was asked whether the movie was any good or not, he compared it to some of the DC Comics shows made by The CW, which doesn’t sound too good at all. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

It plays like a very expensive CW pilot. It’s not really a strong film, the tone is just very CW, lacking in depth, lighter, and more comic book-like, which is odd because Michael Keaton’s in it. It’s basically an hour, 40-minute CW pilot. With a pretty good action set piece at the end from what I’m told. And again, not the worst superhero film I’ve ever seen.
