The first set of metro-train comprising six coaches reached the city on Wednesday, signaling the commencement of operations of the long-awaited rail services across the capital Dhaka.

We think the completion of the construction work of the country's first ever metro rail project is a dream come true and it clearly demonstrates that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary and dynamic leadership is making it possible.

Besides, we are also expressing optimism that city people are going to get a modern rail service that will enhance their social life and boost the economy as well.

The integrated test and trial run will be launched in phases after bringing all train sets in the country and a mock up train was already brought to Uttara depot. The metro rail is expected to carry 60,000 passengers per hour by traveling the entire route of 20km in less than 40 minutes.

We believe if everything goes normal, the city people

will be able to travel from Diabari to Motijheel by the

metro rail before the stipulated time

The metro rail project is being constructed at a cost of Tk 219.85 billion, of which, Japan's aid agency JICA will provide Tk 165 billion.

When this project will be completed, it will change the city’s landscape connecting 16 strategic points and contributing to communication and many other sectors in many ways. Meanwhile, 56.94 percent work of the entire Uttara-Motijheel MRT line-6 has been completed till January this year.

The length of the metro rail route up to Motijheel was 20.10 km. But now it has been extended up to the Kamalapur Railway Station by 1.16 km. As a result, the number of stations was also increased to 16.

The stations are Uttara North, Uttara Centre, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur 11, Mirpur 10, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, BijoySarani, Framgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbag, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat, Motijheel and Kamalapur Railway Station.

We believe if everything goes normal, the city people will be able to travel from Diabari to Motijheel by the metro rail before the  stipulated time.
