Metrorail, elevated expressway to be opened soon

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the city’s elevated expressway on September 2 and the metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel on October 20.

Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader told reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Agargaon 

to Motijheel Metro Rail route on October 20. On this occasion, a gathering will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan on that day. “Our various meetings will continue until the next election,” he said.

Obaidul Quader also said, “A total of 140 bridges and 12 overpasses will be inaugurated from the newly constructed Roads and Bridges building in Tejgaon on October 22. Vehicle Inspection Center will also be inaugurated. It will also be inaugurated by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Such connectivity would greatly relieve traffic congestion in Dhaka city and its surrounding areas.”

Obaidul Quader also said in the conference room of the Roads and Highways Department at the Secretariat on Sunday that 11 and a half kilometers of the elevated expressway from Kawla to Farmgate will be opened on September 2. On the occasion of the inauguration of the elevated expressway, there will be a grand gathering at the old trade fair ground on that day. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be present as the chief guest. 

Obaidul Quader also said, “On the occasion of the inauguration of the elevated express, a gathering will be held at the old trade fair ground on that day. This assembly will take the form of a grand assembly.”

The length of the main section of the elevated expressway from Kawla to Farmgate south of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is 11.5 km and 22.5 km including ramps. Out of total 15 ramps in this section, 13 ramps will be opened for traffic. The expressway will have a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour. It will take 10 minutes to go from Kawla to Farmgate. 

Besides, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel in Chottogram on October 28, a gathering will be held in Anwara at the other end of the tunnel. 

In the press conference, Secretary of Roads and Highways Department ABM Nurul Amin Ullah Noori, Secretary of Bridges Department Md. Manjur Hossain and related officials were present.
