The country's first metro rail route is being constructed from Uttara to Motijheel in the capital. Preparations are underway to launch the 20-km-long section of the railway from Diabari to Agargaon in December next year. The metro rail is likely to run experimentally from Uttara’s Diabari to Agargaon on December 12.

Officials of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) on Friday said that performance tests would be conducted from Diabari to Agargaon in the month of victory. Therefore, they have been given a target to conduct trial operation from Diabari to Agargaon on December 12. Authorities have plans to start passenger transport from Diabari to Agargaon in December next year. It will be possible to start passenger transport up to Motijheel in December 2023.

On August 29, the test run of Bangladesh’s first-ever metro train service on the viaduct was conducted. On that day, the electric train comprising six coaches went from Diabari depot to Pallabi station. Since then, trial operations are being conducted on a regular basis. However, the trial runs were limited within Diabari to Mirpur station number 10.
