On the day of the Metro Rail inauguration it was informed that the other portion from Agargaon to Motijheel will be opened for public next December.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique thanking the Prime Minister said this while speaking at the programme of the inauguration held at Uttara in the capital on Wednesday.

He said, “As a nation we are grateful to you for your bravery which has turn a dream into a reality and the country has been able to enter into the metro rail era. Metro rail’s Motijheel portion will be opened next December.”

“As per the instructions of the Prime Minister, the work of the Kamalapur section is also progressing at full speed. We expect this segment to be launched in June 2025. Besides, three more metro rail construction works will be implemented at the same time,” he added.

DMTCL MD further said, “If the MRT is launched, Tk 40,000 crores will be saved annually. By starting MRT Line-6, the cost of travel will save Tk 38 lakh per day. It will also save about Tk 100 crore in transportation cost.”

Citing the metro rail as an environment friendly technology, he also said, “When the metro rail will run, the number of private cars will gradually decrease in the capital. In such trend, we will get rid of the environmental pollution that we were getting due to burning of fossil fuels.”

He said that it is hoped that in 2030 it will be possible to build a circular web of metro rail in Dhaka city, through which one can travel from any major part of the capital to another.

MAN Siddique said that a key component of metro rail is Transit Oriented Development (TOD). The Prime Minister has allocated 28.61 acres of land to us next to Uttara North Central Station.

Beside the Prime Minister has instruction us to build station plazas on every Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line. The construction of four station plazas on MRT Line-6 is under implementation at various stages, he concluded.
