Metro rail interval time reduced

Considering the demand of passengers, the interval time between Metro trains have been reduced from 10 minutes to 8 minutes which will be effective from next Saturday (February 17).

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique gave this information at a press conference organized at Prabasi Kalyan Bhaban on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, train operations faced disruption due to a malfunction in the signal system. The issue arose after the completion of four morning trips. Despite the problem, train services were not suspended; however, journeys experienced delays. 

The DMTCL Managing Director said that as the holy month of Ramadan is knocking at the door some things including the office time will be changed. We have plans to offer new programs.

“Daily 152 times, metro rail trains are now operating in the city. 

Considering the demand of the passengers, we are increasing our operation by 26 more times. We have reduced the headway time from 10 minutes to 8 minutes during peak hours, which will be effective from next Saturday,” he said.

He also said that at present, an average of 270,000 passengers are traveling in the metro rail. 

Regarding the new time, MAN Siddique said, three trains will be operated from Uttara from 7:10 to 7:30 from Saturday. This is a special offpeak. After that, the train will operate every 8 minutes during peak hours from 7:31 to 11:48. From 11:49 to 3:11, during off peak hours the metro will run as before. Trains will run after 8 minutes during peak hours from 3:12 PM to 8:11 PM. 

About the time of Motijheel to Uttara section operation, he has also said that three trains will run from Motijheel from 7:30 to 8:00. Then peak hour from 8 am to 12:08 pm minutes. Off peak hours start from 12:09 PM to 3:52 PM. And from 3:52 PM to 8:40 PM Peak hours.
