Meta, formerly known as the Facebook Company, partnered with BRAC to empower Bangladeshi women and youth on digital platforms.

The initiative was launched in May 2022 and led by the BRAC Youth Platform focused on developing the capabilities of women and youths to navigate the digital world safely.

By December 2022, at the closing of its first phase, 541,991 people (75% of them women) were provided guidance on digital safety tools by 1,474 qualified BRAC staff.  Similarly, 1,623 youths were provided guidance by 66 trained Youth Ambassadors from the Amra Notun Network. Additionally, another 9,655,247 people were reached via a social media campaign with messages about the safe and effective use of social media.

Utilizing the power of Meta platforms and BRAC’s nationwide reach, this program has reached more than 10 million women and youths in total.

There has been a steep rise in internet use among women and young people in Bangladesh. This project acts as a stepping stone to create a foundation for designing and delivering interventions at scale to generate impact and drive results for a wider community of women and youth so they can ensure a safer online environment for themselves.

A parallel phase of the digital literacy initiative from Meta and BRAC is currently ongoing with another group of BRAC staff on advanced safety tools so they can help their communities navigate the online space more effectively.
