A cruel crime of sexually abusing woman suffering from mental illness took place in Pabna’s Santhia as a mentally handicapped girl gave birth to a baby boy. The new-born baby was born on Sunday at Padma General Hospital in Kashinathpur of the upazila.
This incident now left everyone with a lot of questions about the society in which we live. Who will take the responsibility of this kid? This question is now running on everyone’s mind.
It is known that, for a long time, this mentally unbalanced 18/20-year-old girl used to roam in different markets including Kashinathpur, Dwariyapur, Birahimpur, Chabbishmile, Dulai and Chinakhara.
No one knows her name or address. With the help of local hotels and restaurants or with the help of people, she eats and spends her nights wherever she goes.
Recently, the mentally handicapped girl showed signs of having a child. The matter was visible to many. One person took some pictures of the woman and called on the socially conscious people to come forward with a status on Facebook.
A few conscious people and a voluntary organisation called BD Evergreen (Evergreen Friends Circle) responded. On Saturday, she was brought from the cluster village between Dulai and Chinakhara and admitted to Kashinathpur Padma Hospital. On Sunday, she gave birth to a baby boy.
After hearing the news of this the mentally unbalanced woman, many came forward to her aid in various ways including food, medicine and financial assistance.
Prominent businessman of Kashinathpur and Professor of Kashinathpur Women's Degree College Md. Shafiqul Alam Khan Titul, Medical Officer of Bera Upazila Health Complex Dr. Al Amin, Sub-Inspector Sheikh Sajib, Director of Pad Hospital Md. Sujan Hossain and Sheikh Shahin of BD Evergreen Kaushik Ahmed Anik and others gave aid to her.
Shafiqul Alam Khan Titul told our correspondent, "I am standing by her side for humanitarian reasons after learning about the matter."
