The admission test for the MBBS course for the 2020-21 academic year of government and private medical colleges was held on Friday across the country amid the recent surge of Covid-19 cases. There were overflowing crowds outside several examination centers in the capital without following health protocols.

The test of 1,22,874 candidates was taken at 55 centers across the country while 47,000 of them attended at 15 centers in Dhaka metropolitan area.

The government had mentioned earlier that proper caution would be maintained to maintain the hygiene of the examinees and the guardians waiting outside the center. As per the instructions, it was compulsory for the examinees to wear masks as well as to wash or sanitize their hands with soap at the entrance of the center.

But outside a few centers, thousands of parents were seen standing without maintaining the physical distance even before the start of the test. The guardians remained the same even after the start of the examination. However, except for a few, they all were wearing masks.

Examiners and parents started coming to the centers from 7 am. Most of them left their houses early in the morning because they did not want to take any risk due to the traffic crisis on the road.

Although there was a crowd outside the center, the students had expressed satisfaction with the environment inside. After entering through the gate, they washed or sanitized hands before they reached their respective halls. There was a social distance in the examination hall as well, as one sat on each bench.

It may be mentioned that the number of seats in 47 government medical colleges of the country is 4,350. In addition, another 8,340 students will be able to get admission in 70 more private medical colleges.
