Employees of electronic, online and print media must work together to build the country, said State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan.
He made the remarks at an Iftar and discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Online Media Association at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday.
He said that governing the Religious Affairs Ministry is very sensitive.
“In fulfilling this responsibility the cooperation of the media workers is required. In my political life, I have always had the support of the media, he added.
Referring to constructive criticism as the responsibility of the media for the development of the state, he said that the law is for the people of the country and for the welfare of all.
“It is not right to present any news that causes unpleasant incidents among the citizens or creates unrest in the society. There must be a law to stop such news. This is not a barrier to journalism but a way to preserve humanity. News should not be presented without understanding,” he said.
The state minister further said that he welcomes the process of providing objective news.
“My relationship with journalists has never deteriorated. I have always considered that aspect while working for the people. From the Upazila Parishad elections to the National Parliament, I have received the support of everyone at every level, regardless of party affiliation. People of other parties not only considered me as the leader of the Awami League but also as their close one,” he said.
The meeting was chaired by Kamal Hossain, Executive President of Bangladesh Online Media Association.
Founder President of Bangladesh Online Media Association Jayant Acharya and Co-President Rashidul Hasan Bulbul were present as discussants at the discussion meeting.
