Tajul Islam, the contractor of The Nutted Link, a contractor for the construction of 1.5 km road construction project from BGB camp at Kerhat Union No. 1 (Bhadva Geramara Road) in Mirsarai Upazila, funded by the Department of Local Government Engineering (LGED), has been accused of massive irregularities and corruption.
In the financial year 2020-21 of LGED, Tk. Allegations of irregularities and corruption in the construction of 1.5 km of Bhadva Bhabani Road from the BGB camp on Bariarhat Khagrachhari Road in Kerhat Union No. 1 have been leveled against the contractor.
It was seen on the ground on Wednesday (December 29) that the construction company of the project was using low quality bitumen material in the road through irregularities and corruption. Where there is a government order to use 60-70 grade bitumen, they are using 60-100 grade bitumen.
Despite the request of the locals and local people's representatives to stop the work after allegations of irregularities, Tajul Islam, the contractor, is still trying to complete the work through irregularities.
Due to the use of substandard construction materials in the projects, the road will be demolished in a few days and government money will be lost. This road became unusable within a few months. As a result, the locals have to suffer due to the devaluation of government allocations.
Local UP member Korban Ali said, "When I came to know about the use of substandard construction materials on the road, I informed the Upazila Engineer."
Kamruzzaman, an engineer of Upazila LGD, said that the contract price of the tender under the Local Government Engineering Department has been fixed at 1 crore 8 lakh 22 thousand 23 taka 79 paise. Action will be taken against the contractor if the development work is not done as per the contract and if there is any irregularity in the work.
When the accused contractor called the owner of the company, Abdul Khaleq claimed to be the manager and said, "We are working with the highest quality."
