Mashrafe Bin Mortaza pulled out his name from the central contract list, which the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce very soon. The ODI captain himself requested the BCB to not to consider his name in the contract list to make a way for a new player who could give the side a service for long time, said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, BSS reports.
“Mashrafe requested us not to include him in the contract list because he wants someone who could give the side a service for long time, to be included in place of him,” Papon said on Sunday after the Board of Directors meeting of the BCB.
“We have already prepared a list which was put in the meeting. But after discussing about the matter elaborately, we think we should bring some changes in the list.
Since some of the new players have been playing good, we wanted them to include in the list. The committee will further review it after which we will announce the new contract list.”
Mashrafe has recently pushed the ball to the court of BCB regarding his retirement issue, saying that if BCB forces he would think about it. But at this moment, he has no plan to walk into the sunset. At the same time, he said he doesn’t want any grand farewell as BCB planned to give him during his last match.
The BCB president said that if Mashrafe doesn’t want grand farewell, they won’t force him but he didn’t clear whether they would tell Mashrafe to retire from the cricket.
“After reading the newspaper I came to know that Mashrafe doesn’t want any farewell. If he doesn’t want, we have no reservation. We won’t force him. But I told him during the World Cup that we want to arrange a match for him to give him a befitting farewell to which he said he wants to play till the BPL after which he will take his decision. That’s it just.”
