Martyred Intellectual Day observed in Ctg

The Martyred Intellectual Day-2022 was observed in the port city paying rich tributes to martyred sons of the soil in a befitting manneron Wednesday.

Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations, and educational institutions organised the discussions, cultural functions and miladmahfils to pay rich tributes to the country's golden sons and daughters, who were killed at the end of the War of Liberation in 1971.

In observance of the day, multifarious programmes, including placing of wreaths at Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gatherings, discussion and candle enlightening on the mass graves were observed in the whole day.

Besides, district administration, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), freedom fighters, different educational institutions and professional organisations have also taken daylong programmes marking the day.

National flags were hoisted at half-mast at all public offices and important institutions marking the day.

Chattogram centres of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes while local dailies published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.

Chattogram city unit of Awami League placed wreaths at the killing ground (Boddho Bhumi) in city's Pahartali in the morning and arranged a discussion at the same venue.

Chattogram north and south district chapters of Awami League, Bangladesher Communist Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, MuktijdderBijoyMelaParisad and Bangladesh Islamic Front arranged various programmes, including placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, holding of discussion meetings, cultural functions and MiladMahfils marking the day.

Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chattogram Press Club (CPC) leaders placed wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past zero hours today.

Later, a discussion meeting under the joint auspices of CUJ and CPC was held at the CPC auditorium in the morning.

Chattogram District Administration, Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy and Shishu academy organized a discussion, and essay competition at Shishu Academy.

Bangladesh Chhatra League Chattogram city unit today observed Martyred Intellectual Day.

They arranged a candle-lighting programme at the killing ground (Boddho Bhumi) at Pahartali in the morning. Besides, the authorities of Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology, and University of Science and Technology Chattogram observed the day in a befitting manner.

On December 14, 1971, many of the country's renowned academicians, doctors, engineers, journalists, artists and teachers were dragged out of their homes across the country, blindfolded and taken to unknown places, and then brutally tortured and killed.

Their bodies were later dumped in the Rayerbazar area of Mirpur in the capital.
