Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the Baliaadangi upazila administration in Thakurgaon has intensified market monitoring to ensure fair trade practices. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Palash Kumar Debnath visited the traditional Lahirir Haat in Charol Union on Friday.
During the inspection, two meat sellers and one spice trader were fined a total of Tk 3,500 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act for not displaying price lists and underweight sales. Several other vendors were warned.
Personnel from the Livestock Department and Ansar members accompanied the monitoring team. The UNO stated that similar checks are being conducted in all markets of the upazila and will continue throughout the Eid season to prevent dishonest practices.
