Surgical masks, everyday mobiles, glasses, watches, wallets, key rings, etc. used to prevent Covid-19 will be disinfected and reusable in just two minutes.

The ultraviolet (UV) disinfectant oven has been made at Bangladesh Marine Academy on the south bank of Karnafuli. Earlier, a pneumatic control ventilator was invented in this academy to alleviate the respiratory problems of Covid-19 patients.

Internationally renowned and partnered with Sweden World Maritime University, the academy is producing world-class skilled maritime professionals through modern training.

The academy has an ideal environment for cadets to develop innovative thinking and practice science along with professional training. This time 'Ultraviolet Disinfectant Oven' has been made in the Electrical and Electronic Lab of the Academy.

Designer Academy Lab Instructor of Marine Academy Md. Khaled Salauddin said that the modern technical environment of the academy and the encouragement and overall patronage of Dr. Sajid Hossain, Chief Commandant Naval Engineer of the institute have made such innovative initiatives a success. He said the mask is the main tool to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic.

But recent studies have shown that the corona virus can last up to 7 days in this mask, so the mask needs to be disinfected regularly.

It is possible to disinfect everyday items including masks and use them instantly in just 2 minutes in the UV oven made by him. The use of ultraviolet rays in this device will protect the environment and human body from the harmful effects of disinfectant chemicals and will save money on repeated purchase of chemicals.

In addition to the use of UV rays, the device has been multiplied and made safer by adding conventional oven turn tables; timers of switch and open hatch kill switch features.

He hopes that if the device is used in homes and offices, it will play an effective role in preventing Covid-19 by protecting the environment.

Commandant Naval Engineer of the academy Sajid Hossain said that the previously invented ventilator and the present UV oven prove the richness of the excellence of the modern technical education system of the academy.

Our controlling Ministry of Shipping is always striving to modernize the academy and provide overall support to build it as an international standard naval training institution. The academy has launched online based distance education activities since the closure of educational institutions in the country.

In addition, it has already been decided to set up an 'Innovation Lab' at the academy to enhance the innovative capabilities of the cadets.

He said the UV oven invented at the academy would be built subject to formal approval and would be provided free of cost to hospitals and government offices at an early stage so that normal activities could continue in a corona-free and safe environment.

When the whole country is facing a catastrophe in the corona epidemic this time, two important inventions in a row by the Bangladesh Marine Academy will undoubtedly play a significant role in the 'war against corona'.
