A good number of underprivileged and distressed women have become self-reliant after receiving training on various trades from the women skill-based development training centre of District Women Affairs Office during last ten years.
The training courses are- Swing, Block-boutique, Beautification, Mobile servicing, Food processing, making of candles and showpieces.
Selina Akhter, District Women Affairs Officer said that the government opened three-month training courses for the underprivileged and distressed women for their livelihood. She said they have given financial and other requisite supports after the training. Under the project, some 2000 underprivileged and distressed women received training on different courses and many of them are becoming self-reliant now, she added.
Sofura Begum of village Chinishpur under Sadar Upazila and Rina Begum of village Char Aralia under Raipura upazila set examples for their success in life received training from the Women Affairs office.
Sofura was divested periodically when her husband left her for dowry after one year of her marriage. But the 18 years old Sufura had moral courage. She then joined a three-month training course on Block-Boutique under the women skill based training for livelihood programme.
After completing the course, she then started a block- boutique factory at her father’s house and was running the business successfully with the help of bank and District Women Affairs’ Office.
Rina Begum, a 16 years old poor girl was deeply distressed when her father died few years back.
Then her only means of survival was working as a maid. But the young girl with the help of her aunt joined a three-month long training course of candle making under the women skill based training center of the Women Affairs Office.
After completing the course, Rina started her business of making candle where at present, eight other distressed women have been working her candle making factory. She is now happy.
