A group of people under the banner of ‘July Oikyo’ staged demonstrations and held march towards the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital Tuesday afternoon, demanding what they said an end to ‘foreign influence in Bangladesh's internal affairs’.
The march began from the National Museum at Shahbagh around 11:00am and was intercepted by police near the Shikkha Bhaban around 12:10pm, said Khaled Mansur, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.
Later, five representatives from the group were permitted to proceed to the Ministry of Public Administration at the Secretariat to submit a letter outlining their demands.
As of 1:30pm, the area was clear and there were no protesters on the road, the OC added.
