Maradona due in Dhaka

To make the birth centenary of Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a more memorable one, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) are going to bring Argentine football god and 1986 World Cup winner Diego Maradona in Dhaka. Earlier, BFF had reported the news of Maradona’s arrival. However, an official announcement was still required. According to the announcement made by BFF yesterday, this football legend will set his foot in Dhaka for the first time, ahead of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary.

BFF President Kazi Salahuddin confirmed the news of his arrival. “Maradona is coming to Bangladesh to pay homage to Bangabandhu on his birth centenary in 2020,” he told the media on Tuesday.

After arriving in Dhaka, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He will also participate in various football activities. BFF General Secretary Abu Naim Sohag could not confirm the details of his arrival in detail, “Diego Maradona is coming, it is certain. However, it is not yet clear when will he come or what will be on the tour schedule.”

Bangabandhu’s birth centenary festive period will begin from 17th March and will continue till March of 2021. Therefore, Maradona will be brought to Dhaka anytime during this period. However, BFF also said that Maradona’s tour schedule will be adjusted according to his convenient time.
