A section of the people serving in the west zone power development company limited (WZPDCL) in Jhenaidah have been allegedly harassing the subscribers imposing overload of power bills against their connections.

The unethical activities of the authority, thousands of power subscribers have expressed their grave concern over the matter. They had demanded immediate punishment the men involved in making ghost bills in recent time.

The subscribers alleged that the power department employees have been preparing ghost bills staying in their offices during the Covid-19 time which is much more than the actual figure of their sealed metres.

They said the domestic users have reduced their consumption and the commercial users are not in a position to utilize the power due to shut down or locked down. But the WZPDCL men have been charging additional amount in the bills for past few months unethically.

When the media activists had visited Kanchannagar area of Jhenidah municipality, came to know that the newly prepared bills claimed additional use which became burden for the subscribers. It was not similar with the sealed metres, they said.

As pr the information, the number of power subscribers under Jhenidah WZPDCL is 1.25 lakh in Jhenidah Sadar, Shailkupa, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur and bordering Moheshpur.  When the media activists tried to contact to the executive engineer (XEN) of Jhenidah WZPDCL Paritoish Chandra Sarker, he had denied to talking to the media activists anyway.
