Many new faces coming up for polls in 5 Sunamganj seats

In the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections, a large part of the party's candidate listed in Sunamganj consists of young candidates. In the five constituencies of the district, there are new faces alongside Senior candidates. Most of the new faces are former Former Students League, Youth League, Volunteer League, Sramik League and current Awami League Leaders. However, BNP leaders are not behind.

Candidates of the ruling party Awami League have already started campaigning in their areas around the 12th National Parliament election.

 They are going to the area and doing mass communication to increase the relationship with the people of their respective parliamentary constituencies and gain popularity. On the occasion of various festivals, the eyes of all the aspirant leaders are now in their areas.

In the last election, the Awami League won four of the five parliamentary seats in the district and the National Party won one. The rulers and their allies want to maintain their position in the future. BNP leaders are also in the field.

Sunamganj-1 (Tahirpur-Dharm­pasha-Jamalganj-Madhyanagar): Awami League and BNP have the most potential candidates in the seat. As the current MP Moazzem Hossain Ratan was involved in various controversies while being a member of Parliament for three terms, the interest of potential candidates is high here.

Other potential candidates of Awami League in this seat are- former member of parliament Syed Rafiqul Islam Sohail, district Sramik League president Md Salim Ahmad, retired joint secretary Binay Bhushan Talukder, reserved seat MP Shamima Akhtar Khanam, Sylhet district Awami League leader Ranjit Sarkar.

The potential candidates of BNP are former district president and MP Nazir Hossain who was elected as BNP candidate in the last election, UK BNP leader Barrister Hamidul Haque Affendi Liton, former upazila chairman Anisul Haque, Kamruzzaman Kamrul.

 Sunamganj-2 (Dirai-Shalla): After Suranjit's death, his wife Jaya Sengupta is now the Member of Parliament of this constituency. She will seek the nomination again in Sunamganj-2 in the 12th parliamentary elections.

Possible candidates for Awami League in this seat are - District Awami League President and Zilla Parishad Chairman Nurul Huda Mukut and Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League Leader Shamsul Islam.

The possible candidates for BNP are former MP and district convener Nashir Uddin Chowdhury, district BNP advisor Tahir Raihan Chowdhury Pavel, and district leader Barrister Mahdin Chowdhury.

Sunamganj-3 (Shantiganj-Jagannathpur): The current Member of Parliament of this constituency is Planning Minister MA Mannan. Several Awami League leaders sought nomination against him.

Other possible candidates for Awami League in this seat are Azizus Samad Don, son of late national leader Abdus Samad Azad, member of the Central Committee of Awami League, Public Prosecutor (PP) in Sunamganj district session and judge court, leader of Awami League Khairul Kabir Rumen. The possible candidates for BNP in this seat are - Shantiganj Upazila Chairman Farooq Ahmed, United Kingdom BNP General Secretary Kaishar M Ahmed, District BNP Vice President Anshar Uddin, and Nurul Islam Saju.

Besides, there is Maulana Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury of Jamiat Ulamae Islam.

Sunamganj-4 (Sadar-Bishwam­bharpur): Pir Fazlur Rahman Misbah of the National Party was elected Member of Parliament for the second time from this seat in the last election. He will contest from the National Party in the future. Several Awami League leaders may seek nomination against him.

Possible candidates for Awami League in this seat are - Central Awami League Advisor Matiur Rahman, and National Assembly Member Barrister M Enamul Kabir Imon.

The possible candidates of BNP for the Sadar seat are- former upazila chairman and senior vice president of district BNP Dewan Zainul Zakerin, general secretary Nurul Islam Nurul, vice president Abdul Latif JP, United Kingdom BNP leader Golam Rabbani Ahmad.

Sunamganj-5 (Chatak-Doarabazar): The current member of parliament in this constituency is Muhibur Rahman Manik of the Awami League. He will also seek party nomination in the future.

Awami leader and former central leader of the student League Shamim Ahmad Chowdhury may seek nomination against him in this seat.

Besides, the party's central executive committee member Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, district BNP president, and former MP Kalim Uddin Ahmad Milan can contest from BNP.
