Most of the biggest group of companies in Sonargaon upazila forcibly occupied the government khash land as well as innocent and poor people’s land to set up their industries.
Assistant commissioner (AC Land) of Sonargaon upazila Al-Mamun confirmed to the Bangladesh Post that most of the major companies grabbed more or less amount of khash land and constructed their factories.
According to official information and the sufferer's voice, owners of the industries grabbed both khash and poor people’s land by force using local influential and hoodlums.
Sonargaon upazila land office confirmed that an amount of 2904.83 acres of khash lands are in official records.
Among the total khash land a business group grabbed 4.39 acres and established cement factories and other industries.
Both the district and Sonargaon upazila administration headed by Sonargaon AC Land conducted an eviction drive on November 1, to bulldoze an industry of the group that is on khash land. Some portion of grab land recovered by eviction drive but the others industries being heavy construction so that need a powerful bulldozer to demolish those structures. The administration arranged powerful equipment for bulldozing heavy construction and then a massive drive will be continued.
AC Land of Sonargaon told that he issued a notice in June this year to another group to remove their establishments from the khash land. After receiving notice, the
company had filed a writ petition to the high court challenging the notice activities.
A sufferer Dulal Hossain complained that his land forcibly filling sand captured by a group but he and like him don’t dare to say any word against the company due to harassment by the local goons. Also alleged that all the above mention companies setting their industries grabbing poor peoples land and purchasing it by paying half percent money of proper land value.
