Universities, including schools and colleges, have been closed since March 16 due to the coronavirus. The students are therefore staying at home. Students from different universities are now spending time by planting trees and creating gardens around their homes.
In different upazilas of Bogura, students are planting gardens by planting different varieties of fruits, herbs and beauty plants on the roof of the house in drums or in the open space next to the house. These students have been staying at home for about four months to maintain social distancing.
There is no pressure to study as the college and university are closed. University students are showing interest in gardening rather than spending time on social media or watching TV.
Students studying at Bogura College-University have responded to the one crore native tree planting program in Mujib Year.
They have distributed saplings to various educational institutions.
At the same time, they are collecting these saplings from local nurseries including Upazila Social Forestry Nursery and Training Center and planting gardens on the roof of the
house in drums and in the open space around the house.
Likhan Uz Zaman Apan, a student of Jahangirnagar University, who lives in Dupchanchia Purbapara, said he planted mango, orange, pomegranate, litchi, malt, grapefruit, grape and lemon saplings on the roof of his house with the aim of making one crore native tree planting program a success.
Nahidul Islam, a student of Dhaka University in Baromile area, said he could not get out of the house due to lockdown.
So, he has made a roof garden by planting different fruit saplings in drums on the roof of the house.
ATM Akhtaruzzaman, Forest Officer-in-Charge of Dupchanchia Upazila, said that on the one hand, they are playing a leading role in maintaining social distance and on the other hand, they will play a role in the success of one crore native tree planting program of Mujib year. Not only in Dupchanchia, but also in different areas of Bogra city, the students are planting trees, constructing roof gardens and constructing gardens in the open space of the house.
Bogura District BCL Publicity Secretary Mukul Islam said they have planted trees in different places.
