When the government has assured of all services in the health sector, the services have been hampered for the people of bordering Moheshpur upazila for a long time. Acute shortage of manpower and shortage of some essential medicines in the 50-bed upazila health complex (UHC), was mainly liable for the situation, said the department officials and locals.
During a visit at the UHC, this correspondent came to know that 17 physicians were posted for the complex a few months back, helping reduce the crisis of the physicians. While, the positions of store keeper, statisticians, two pharmacists, cashier and gardener were vacant in the UHC for a long.
About 13 staff of the UHC were deputed elsewhere made the situation worsens. Further, the shortage of some essential drugs was prevailing for last few months throwing the patients in trouble. Some patients waiting to receive medicine in a long queue from the dispensary when asked said they have to wait for a long for the shortage of service providers for the section. It is a casual problem for the patients, they said.
Upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) Anjuman Ara Begum when contacted admitted the shortage of the staff and medicine. She said the activities in the health complex have been hampered for discharging services for the people. Staff shortage has been also hampering administrative and treatment services for the people rushing in the health complex every day.
Her administration is not in a position to sanction new positions when 13 of her staff were sent on deputation for a long time. It has been creating troubles since the time. The same was noticed to the authorities for immediate action, while the problem yet to be solved. Civil surgeon in Jhenidah Salina Begum when contacted said she had informed the matter to the higher authority. They have been waiting for the solution at an early time.
