Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed expressed the hope that recruitment of workers in Malaysia will start by January of the new year.
“Workers would be sent through the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) database. He also advised the people not to make any financial transaction with anyone for going to Malaysia,” he said.
He made the remarks at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment in the capital's Eskaton area on Tuesday after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on recruitment of workers in Malaysia.
Secretary of the Ministry Dr Ahmed Munirush Salehin read out a written statement at the press conference.
Earlier, a MoU was signed on Sunday last for sending workers from Bangladesh to Malaysia. Imran Ahmed, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment on behalf of Bangladesh and M Saravanan, Minister for Human Resources on behalf of Malaysia signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides. As a result of this agreement, the Malaysian labour market has reopened to Bangladeshis after being closed for almost three years.
After a long interval of three years, on December 10, Malaysia has approved the recruitment of workers from Bangladesh. Malaysia's cabinet approved hiring workers in all sectors of the country. The country will employ Bangladeshi workers, especially in the domestic, agricultural, manufacturing, services, mining and quarrying and construction sectors.
