Mannan urges all to work for betterment of persons with disabilities

BERDO steps into 30th years of journey

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Saturday urged all to work collectively for development of persons with disabilities saying that he would always work for their development. 

He also said that the government of Bangladesh is always work for the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organisation (BERDO) organized the Google Meet discussion marking its stepping into the 30th years.

Planning Minister MA Mannan joined the occasion as Chief Guest while Managing Director of Ahsan Group Engineer Quamrul Ahsan and Director of Energypac Engineer Nurul Akter Participated as Special Guest and Director of ABC Real estate, board director of Bangladesh woman chamber of commerce and industries Ms Sabina Alam Participated as invited guest.

Executive Director of BERDO, Saidul Huq presided over the discussion.  While addressing, speakers stressed sustainably empowering and streamlining the people with visually impairment and other type of disabilities in the society through eliminating discrimination and injustices.

They also emphasized needs of ensuring economic capability of disabled people so that they can hold their heads high in the society and community.

Special Guest Engineer Quamrul Ahsan said that, he would always support BERDO due to the nature of humanitarian activity.

Expressing his reactions on the occasion of anniversary celebration, BERDO Executive Director, Saidul Huq, BERDO, in its long 29 year’s arduous journey, has always tried to focus on ensuring equal access, active participation and dignified life of persons with disability. 

“Running a blind School since 2006, BERDO is providing education to the children with visually impairment through Braille system. It also runs Residential School for the Children with Visually Impairment, School of Information & Technology for the Visually Impairment (SITVI) , Braille Book Production Centre, Job Placement, Empowerment Program for the Children with Disabilities (EPCD), Promotion of Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Bangladesh (PHRPBD) and Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program”, said the founder and Executive Director of BERDO.

He expresses need to have cooperation from the government to set up a Braille press in the BERDO office premises so that the blind learners get a support from the organization. 

The School of Information and Technology, another initiative of BERDO, was established for the persons with Visually Impairment (SITVI) aiming to provide computer learning for their skill development, make proficient in computer operation and internet. BERDO has so far provided computer training to more than 200 blind students.

BERDO has been continuously strived to find out appropriate employment opportunity for the potential persons with disabilities in different organizations. Typically, BERDO communicates with prospective employers for employing PWDs as per their competencies and qualification. 

Daily Ittefaq and Bangladesh post joined the discussion meeting as media partner. Among others President of BERDO Mr Jahangir Alam, Vice President Ms Hosne Ara Begum, Advisor Mosharraf Majumder, Mehedi Shahin Dilder, Humayun kabir etc were participated in the meeting. 

All participant in their respective deliberation expressed their valuable views and wishes BERDO for best future.
