Manikganj traffic police realise Tk 3.5cr fine in 2020

Although countrywide shutdown was enforced for several months in 2020, the traffic police in Manikganj generated nearly Tk 3.5 crore revenue by penalising violators of traffic rules in the district. The amount has already been deposited to the government fund. 

A total of Tk 3 crore 31 lakh 46 thousand 500 has been collected by conducting operations against fitness and unregistered vehicles in the last one year in Manikganj.

A total of 844 cases were also registered under the Motor Vehicle Act, although the global epidemic was prevailing during the period.

District Traffic Police Inspector (TI Admin) Mohammad Abul Hossain Gazi confirmed the information to the Bangladesh Post.

Manikganj District Traffic Department and BRTA Office sources said that the raids were carried out against buses, minibuses, trucks, pickups, covered vans, tankers and specially unregistered motorcycles for violating traffic laws, lack of fitness certificates, route permits, reckless driving and lack of necessary documents.

According to Manikganj District Traffic Department, a total 844 cases have been filed in the face of traffic police raids. Among them, 510 cases have also been filed under new manual. 

A total revenue Tk 23 lakh 8 thousand 500 has been collected through the traffic police in contrast to these cases. Of this revenue, Tk 1 lakh 50 thousand has been collected in January 2020,  78 thousand 100 taka in February, 99 thousand 900 taka  in March, 32 thousand 200 taka  in April, 11 thousand 400 taka  in May, 1 lakh 8 thousand 350 taka in June, 1 lakh 32 thousand 100 taka in July, 3 lakh 19 thousand taka in August, 3 lakh 2 thousand 950 taka in September, 2 lakh 6 thousand 400 taka in October, 3 lakh 95 thousand 600 taka in November and 4 lakh 600 taka in December. Which has been deposited in the government treasury through treasury invoices.

Meanwhile, 2,932 motorcycles were registered from 2020 to December due to the crackdown on unregistered motorcycles under the direction of the Superintendent of Police. For the cause, about 3 crore 8 lakh 40 thousand taka revenue has been collected last year.

Mahbub Kamal, a motor vehicle inspector at the Manikganj BRTA office, admitted the fact to Bangladesh Post and said as traffic police raids, the government's revenue collection has increased comparatively.

District Traffic Police Inspector (TI Administration) Mohammad Abul Hossain Ghazi said the police had to show humane and sympathetic attitude in the socio-economic context during the global epidemic. He expressed hope that the Corona period would pass soon, adding that the government's revenue collection would increase comparatively in the coming days.

Rifat Rahman Shamim, Police Superintendent of Manikganj told the Bangladesh Post that according to the Motor Vehicle Act, it is a regular activity of the police. So this activity is ongoing process and it will continue.
