National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 43rd death anniversary was observed on Wednesday at Shibalaya in Manikganj.
Shibalaya Nazrul-Promila Shahitya Sangsad organised a day-long programme at Teota Academy.
The programme featured doa mahfil, procession, cultural show and others.
The organisers brought out a procession at 10:00am and placed floral wreaths in front of Nazrul’s portrait.
Following which, a discussion was also held on the life and works of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Shibalaya Nazrul-Promila Shahitya Sangsad vice-president K M Obaidul Islam presided over the programme where head master of Teota Academy Mohammad Mojammel Haque, also secretary of Nazrul-Paromila Shahitya Sangsad, organising secretary of Nazrul-Paromila Shahitya Sangsad Shahjahan Biswas and others attended the programme.
The speakers said that Kazi Nazrul Islam spent a lot of time at Teota while he was in a relationship with Promila. They urged the government to establish a university named after Kazi Nazrul Islam in Teota.
Following the discussion, Shibalaya Nazrul-Promila Shahitya Sangsad artistes rendered popular Nazrul songs and recited poems to the delight of the audience.
