Official mango collection season in Satkhira has begun in accordance with the district administration's designated schedule in an effort to guarantee the marketing of safe and good quality Satkhira mangoes.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday at the District Agriculture Extension Department, Satkhira. It was presided over by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shoaib Ahmed. Deputy Director (Agriculture) Saiful Islam led the event. The mango collection began at the orchard of Moksed Moral, a prominent mango grower from Kukhrali.
The initiation of mango collection on the specified date, as outlined by the district administration, underscores the commitment to preserving the quality of Satkhira mangoes and facilitating their entry into the market. The district administration had previously devised a comprehensive mango collection and market cultivation calendar, tailored to the diverse varieties of mangoes.
According to the calendar, harvesting of local mango varieties such as Gopalbhog, Bombay, Gopalkhas, Baisakhi on May 9, Gobindabhog on May 11, Himsagar on May 22, Langra mango on May 29 and Amrapali mango on June 10, has been scheduled with a one-week advance notice.
The inaugural event saw the presence of key officials, including Satkhira Additional Deputy Director Iqbal Ahmed and others.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Yasir Arafat, alongside representatives from print and electronic media outlets, and mango traders, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
