An innocent man of Khulna has been in jail for almost four months in a case of mistaken identity. The victim’s name is Salam Dhali (57).

His family alleges, arrested Salam has the same name as the person against whom a warrant was issued. The real accused, Abdus Salam, son of late Mofiz Uddin of Sheikhpara Main Road in Khulna, and arrested Salam Dhali, son of Mofiz Uddin Dhali of Sher-e-Bangla Road. Police are taking initiative to inform the court after the investigation is confirmed.

Sharmin Akhter Kakli, wife of Salam Dhali on Sher-e-Bangla Road in the city, alleged that the police went to their house on the night of March 11 and arrested her husband and took him to Sonadanga police station.

She later found out that her husband had been arrested as a  two-year convict in a theft case  at Mongla police station in  Bagerhat.  After his arrest, he was sent to Bagerhat Jail through Khulna and Bagerhat Courts.  However, her husband  Salam Dhali is not the accused in the case.

The accused in the case is Abdus Salam, son of late Shafiz Uddin of Sheikhpara Main Road and according to the case statement, the real accused is now 62 years old.

Salam Dhali's lawyer Advocate Farid Ahmed told the media that a case was registered with Mongla Police Station on September 3, 2005 for stealing electrical goods. Accused Abdus Salam was sentenced to two years in prison on July 30, 2009.

The arrest warrant was sent to Sonadanga police station from the court. Eleven years later, in that case, the police arrested another person without apprehending the real culprit.
