Man to die for killing wife

After 17 years, the court has sentenced to death the husband of Moinuddin, the victim of the controversial Bibi Fatema Akhtar Poli murder case of Begumganj, Noakhali.

Noakhali District Special Judge Court Judge ANM Morshed Khan gave this order on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, the other 5 defendants in the case were acquitted.

Two days after her disappearance on August 31, 2005, police recovered the body of Bibi Fatema Akhtar Poli from a canal in Anantapur, Begumganj. Later, the deceased's father, Ibrahim Mia, filed a case at Begumganj police station, making Moinuddin, the husband of Fatema Akhter, the main accused.

The counsel for the state side of the case (PP) Md Emdad Hossain confirmed the matter and said that the court sentenced Moin Uddin to death after the hearing as the husband admitted his guilt in the court under section 164 and gave a confessional statement. Also fined 50 thousand rupees. The rest of the accused were also acquitted. The state counsel expressed satisfaction with the verdict.

Jahangir Alam, the brother of the deceased, said, "My father was the plaintiff in the case." After 17 long years, today this verdict was given, but my father is not alive. He is dead.
