A rickshaw pulled allegedly hacked his wife and sister-in-law to death in city’s East Nakhalpara on Saturday.
The deceased were primarily identified as Yasmin Akter, 35, and her sister Shimu, 17. Both of them were working in RMG factories.
Harun-ur Rashid, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post.
According to him, the rickshaw puller (Rony Mia) hacked the duo to death inside his residence following a family dispute.
On information, locals rushed to the spot and found the sisters dead on the bed.
Later, they detained Rony and handed him over to police after beating him back and blue.
The accused was receiving treatment at Tejgaon Thana Health Complex. The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
When asked about the reason behind the gruesome killing, ADC Hafiz Al Faruque told this correspondent that Rony was divorced by his wife some months ago. He repeatedly tried to convince his wife to restore their conjugal life. But his wife refused his proposal. At one stage, he became furious and decided to kill his former wife.
When his sister-in-law tried to resist, he also murdered her, the senior police officer quoted lone accused Rony as saying.
Responding to another question, ADC Hafiz further said, “We are investigating to know the real scenario behind the double murder.”
