A man was killed and two others were injured as a microbus of Comilla University (CoU) smashed a CNG-run-auto-rickshaw from behind on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Korpai area under Burichang upazilla in Cumilla on Thursday noon.
The deceased was identified as Ahmad Ali, passenger of an auto-rickshaw and resident of Mohorampur village of Chandina upazilla under Cumilla district. He died while he was taking to hospital. Both auto-rickshaw and private car drivers were injured critically. They were sent to the Eastern Medical College and Hospital.
Safayet Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Maynamati Highway Crossing Police Station, said that a Dhaka-bound microbus of Comilla University hit the auto-rickshaw from behind as a front wheel of the car was burst out suddenly and lost control.
CoU proctor Dr Kazi Kamal Uddin said that he microbus was going to Dhaka to bring in an expert to renovate Bangabandhu’s sculpture. “We have contacted the family of the deceased. Both the side will issue the matter sitting together,” he said.
