Man held for killing wife

Police arrested a man reportedly for hacking his wife to death in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrested is Hafizur, hailed from Alongkarpur village under Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari district. He used to work as knitting operator at a readymate garments factory in Savar municipality.

Meanwhile, the victim was identified as Kohinoor Begum who hailed from Kurigram district.

During primary interrogation, Hafizur confessed to his crime and alleged that the victim Kohinoor used to run a prostitution in the rented house and following this, a family dispute had broke out between them. As sequel to it, they both locked into a fight on Tuesday afternoon over this matter and at one stage of fight, he hacked Kohinoor on her throat with a sharp knife, leaving her dead on the spot, reports our correspondent.

Later, Hafizur tried to hide the body in the bathroom of the house but failed, he said.

Savar Model Police Station inspector Noyon Karkun said on information, police have recovered the body from the spot and sent it to a hospital morgue for autopsy, said the police official.

A case has been filed against him with the police station and legal action is underway in this regard, added the inspector Noyon Karkun.
