A man in Kishoreganj allegedly occupied Najirdighi, a jalmohal located in Kuliachar upazila of Kishoreganj, by obtaining a court ruling and land records on his favour using fraudulent documents.
The allegation was brought against Mosharraf Hossain, resident of Noapara village in Bajitpur upazila. A human chain was formed by the local residents of Najirdighi village in Kuliachar upazila on Tuesday noon to protest against it.
Former UP members Saidur Rahman Bacchu, Abdul Kaiyum ,Nur Mohammad and Borhan Uddin spoke at the programme on behalf of the villagers.
They said Najirdighi is a government asset and part of our heritage. It is listed as a khas property khatiyan no. 1. Two hundred farmers of the village use water from Najirdighi for irrigation on their lands. Mosharraf is attempting to illegally occupy this dighi through fraudulent means.
It was learnt that, the Nazir Dighi water body was leased to Abdus Shattar for Tk 864,000 in 2013-15 period. However, to seize control of it, Mosharraf Hossain and his mother Halima Khatun filed a case at the 2nd Joint District Judge Court, posing as owners. Through the court, they obtained an injunction against the government's leasing activities on January 31, 2023.
However, Sub-Assistant Land Officer of Osmanpur union in Kuliachar upazila, Monir Uddin Ahmed said, Mosharraf Hossain is claiming ownership of Najirdighi under khatiyan no. 4. However, it is actually included under khatiyan no. 1. A khas land is always included under khatiyan no.1. He is asserting ownership by fraudulently referencing it underkhatiyan no. 4, which has no basis. Furthermore, all government records indicate that Najirdighi is classified as state property.
Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj Fouzia Khan said a written complaint has already been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on behalf of the district administration. The matter is currently under investigation, including all staff involved.
A case regarding this issue is also ongoing in the higher court. The district administration has already taken all necessary legal actions.
