A Noakhali court has sentenced a man named Mohammad Ibrahim to life imprisonment in a 2004 rape case at Hatia upazila in Noakhali.
Judge of the District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Mohammad Samsadhsadhar Uddin Khaled handed down the verdict on Wednesday noon.
Defendant Mohammad Ibrahim was present at the court dock while the verdict was being read. He is the son of Abdul Hai of Shunyerchar village in the upazila. The court also fined the accused Tk 25,000 in addition to life imprisonment. He ordered two more years of rigorous imprisonment for non-payment.
Following the hearing, the court on Wednesday sentenced the accused Ibrahim to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 25,000 and two more years rigorous imprisonment for non-payment. At that time another accused Abdul Hasim was acquitted from the case.
