A Shariatpur court on Tuesday sentenced death penalty to a man for killing his wife in Bhedarganj upazila of the district in 2021.
Judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Sohel Ahmed handed down the verdict to Raja Mia Bepari, 35, hailed from Bakaul Kandi village in the upazila.
The court also fined him Taka 20,000.
According to the prosecution, convict Raja Mia beaten his wife Kanchon Mala to death over a family feud on June 6 in 2021. Following the murder, Kanchon Mala's brother filed a case accusing five people.
Later, police pressed the charge-sheet accusing Raja Mia.
Testifying witnesses and evidences the court gave the order in presence of Raja Mia, said Special Public Prosecutor Firoj Ahmed.
